Piran has high town wall, from where is a wonderful view to the city Piran, sea and Italy in the distant. It was intended for defense. It has slightly inclined slope. It is easly accessible from the town centre and worth seeing. Piran was surrounded with the wall in the 7th century. It was divided to quarters, which were named by town doors: Miljska, Stolna, Osrednja and Poljska. With development they included some new quarters, which were rising outside of it. The first wall, which was surrounding the oldest part of the town in the cape had to be frequently renovated. The second wall included the quarter Marcano. Its remains are preserved first Rasporska door. In the beginning of the 16th century the third wall embraced the whole peninsula. It was finally built in the years from 1470 to 1534 and had 8 defensive towers. By forms was adapting to the medieval way of warfare. There are preserved seven town walls, which are the former entrances through the walls into the town.
