Polhov Gradec - Church of the Birth of Mary
The Church of Birth of Mary in Polhov Gradec is situated in the old village centre, which is mostly serried around it. Together with the Polhograjska gora and the Church of Saint Laurence, Calvary or Old Castle on the hill gives the picturesque image of the village. In the past there were many other churches on this place, but only the fragments preserved. It was built in the baroque style in years from 1728 to 1736. It was consecrated in the year 1744 and in the 19th century got the present appearance. At that time was raised together with the belfry. Inside we can see the golden altar, which is the work of the local carving family Facija, whose workshop was famous because of the excellent quality of work.
