Idrija is the oldest mining town in Slovenia. In the middle of the oldest St Ahacij Square we can see the baroque fountain, where was discovered rich mercury ore. The square is surrounded with many buildings and among them are the most prominent mining Theatre, mining Magazine and Antony's shaft – Selstev. The theatre is the oldest preserved stone theatre building in Slovenia, which was built together with the cereals storehouse. Today is Theatre changed into a cinema. Magazin is the theresian monumental building in which they kept and sheltered cereals to miners till the year 1912. Today is in the building city library and galery. On the facade of the Magazine can be seen plates of the famous people, who marked Idrija. Arched passageway is connecting the newest and the oldest square. In Antony's shaft we can the underground world of the Idrija mine. It is the oldest part of the Idrija mine. The entrance to the mine belongs to the oldest preserved gates in the world. The entrance building Selstev in front of the gallery was built in the 18th century. Upon arrival visitors can watch a video projection and learn about five hundred years of mining history by the interesting explanation of the guide.
