Kojsko

Kojsko is a smaller wayside village, which belongs to the Municipality of Brda. The village was in written sources first mentioned in 1086. Kojsko was until the First World War the economical and cultural centre of the eastern part of Goriska brda. Kojsko is today a region, which is intensively engaged in viniculture. The village’s main attractions are the parish Church of the Holy Cross and Church of the Mary’s Assumption.

The Baroque Church of the Mary’s Assumption was built on the site of the former Gothic church on the second half of the 18th century. The Baroque part of the church was added to the Gothic church, which is today the sacristy. Behind the altar is built the custody from the year 1492 in the Venetian style. We can see four valuable paintings by painter De Vito and gift of Count Coronini. The façade of the church is decorated with sundial, which is work of the priest Ferjancic.

The Church of the Holy Cross is part of the former camp with four towers, which was built among the Turkish invasions in the 16th century. During the French occupation were destroyed three towers, only one preserved till today, which is now a church tower. To the Gothic church leads the Stations of the Cross. In the Church of the Holy Cross we can see the largest and almost only completely preserved Gothic wing altar in Slovenia, which is probably a work of the Villach carving workshops.

In Kojsko was built the castle in 1594. Its owners were family Coronini, later Attems and then the local families Kumar and Pittamec. In the centre of the village we can see the monumental monument, which is dedicated to choirmaster Srecko Kumar.
