Brolo Square has the appearance which comes up from the urbanism and was typical for the Venetian cities. The important buildings and institutions were at the edges of the square. Floor area of the square was the water reservoir. The water was flowing into the cistern and remains of this function are two sculptured fountains. Brolo Square got the present image in the period of Baroque. In the Brolo Square with neighbourhood the most interesting buildings are: Vissich-Nardi Palace, Fontico, Church of Saint Jakob, Gravisi - Barbabianca Palace, Elio Palace, Brutti Palace, De Rin House, Corner Palace. From the square is the nice view to the Town's Tower. Fontico is the oldest building in the square. Its construction is mentioned already in the year 1392, about 1460 had got the final image, later was only changed the appearance of the facade. Fontico was the storehouse for cereals. Cereals were given to the local people when were wars or the bad crops. The building has the marvellous heraldic adornment and Renaissance and Gothic windows. On the main facade you can see series of blazons from the important Koper's mayors. The Church of Saint Jakob was built in the 14th century. It is from the sculptured stone. Gravisi Barbabianca Palace is one of the most prominent Koper's Baroque's Palaces from the year 1710. In the main hall has preserved painted decoration from the middle of the 19th century, its painter is Giuseppe Gatteri. At the street is the front with the ground floor, which has smaller decorated windows and representative first floor. In the palace is now the music school. Brutti Palace is from the second half of the 18th century. It has the Baroque facade. Here is now the seat of the central library.
