Maribor is one of the cities which steps out with the beautiful and interesting old city centre. Strossmayer Street is named by the Croatian bishop, the founder of the Yugoslav academy of science and art and the patron of culture, Josip Juraj Strossmayer. In the Strossmayer and Gospejna Street is located the Sentpavel manor, The art gallery Maribor, the former cloister of Celestines, The University library of Maribor, Godel palace, the former cloister of sisters of mercy, today is there bishop's students home, the chapel of the former cloister of sisters of mercy, copy of the fountain Lavantine's diocese Saint Andraz and other. Sentpavel manor is part of the former cloister of the Celestine nuns. There had had the cloister from the Sentpavel in Labotska valley in Koroska their administration of the alpine land and vineyards. In the 1759 was bought by the Celestine nuns and they built the church of the feast of the Annunciation. The monastery was dissolved in the year 1782. There was then the military dressing room, military regiment and later the factory for the coffee substitute. In the year 1845 became transverse to the axis of the church and to the monastery the most beautiful late classicist building. The owner baron Goedel Lanoy had connected with the new tract the church and the entire building complex. The building was in the year from 1951 to 1945 renovated and had got the form of The art gallery Maribor. In the art gallery are organized exhibitions, lectures, presentations of the artists, creative workshops, concerts and many other. It is a lively place for the creativeness and social gathering. The University library of Maribor is a paradise for the bookworms. It was established in the year 1903. It got the present name in the year 1975. In the year 1988 was renovated and modernized. They organize various exhibitions fromt time to time.
