Church of St. Mihaela is located in Crna vas on the Ljubljana Marshes. It is a Roman Catholic church that belongs to the parish of Ljubljana - Barje. It was built in 1938 on the initiative of the parish priest, Fran Saleski Finzgar, and the catechist Karl Matkovic, nephew of the renowned Slovenian architect, Joze Plecnik, who also made the plan for the church. As the church stands in a marshy area, it was built on pilots. The foot of the Church of St. Michael is stone and the rest is made in wood. An interesting stone bridge leads to the church nave. The interior is very modest, since most of the equipment is wooden and sewage pipes were used for certain support columns. The outside of the bell tower is made of brick and stone, and the facades are lined with wood and stone. The baseline floor plan concept reminiscent of the University Library in Ljubljana. The building is one of Plecnik's most imaginative and original architectures.
