In the region of the Verd in Vrhnika you can see the granary, the house in which Jozef Petkovsek was born with the memorial plate, church of Saint Anton, monument for the National Liberation War with small park and many other interesting things. Here is the confluence of the rivers Big and Small Ljubljanica. From Verd to Vrhnika you can go by the small wooden bridge, which is reserved only for walkers. The granary is the prime ethnographic monument. In the basic the granary is baroque. Originaly was in the property of the Bistrica cloister, part of the smaller complex with Petkovsek home. In Vrhnika was this type of the granary very frequent. The granary was intended for preserving the provisions, mostly the cereals. Usually was the place in the house or the independent building. At the beginning the granaries were wooden, but later they made them from stone and they indicated the social status of the owner. They were built in floors, to which were leading wooden or stonly stairs. Granary Miklc was renovated in the year 1981 and named gallery Granary to the memory of the painter Jozef Petkovsek. There is now the permanent exhibition of the photographs from Petkovskek and sometimes works of the present artistics creators. Jozef Petkovsek is one of the most original Slovenian painters from the 19th century. It is famous by landscape, genre themes and unfinished paintings.
