Bled - Bled Island 

Bled belongs between the most popular and well attended tourist places in Slovenia. The place is especially known by the island, castle and lake. The Bled Island is a small island, which is situated in the middle of the Lake Bled. On the island you can see the interesting baroque Church of the Assumption. You can go to the Bled island with the traditional boat which is called pletna and is pushed by the steersman. If you wish you can also rent a boat and paddle by yourself. Pletna boat is very well known remarkableness of this place. The history of the boat goes to the 12th century. Pletna is 2 meter wide and 7 meter long wooden boat. Today the boatmen are part of the association Mlino. The Bled Island was already settled in the minor Stone Age, but just as the temporary fishermen post. In the 17th century were in the island built the stony staircase with the 99 stairs and the chapel of the Mother of God. The Bled Island is very well known by ringing to the bell. This should by the folk tradition fulfil wishes to the one who rings it. At the Bled Island you can see the Gothic lighthouse, which is situated near the southerner entrance to the church and the baroque statue of the Maria Magdalena. In the winter time you can walk to the island, if it is enough cold that the surface of the lake frozen. The Bled Island is a wonderful place for a romantic wedding.
