Strunjan Landscape Park

Strunjan Landscape Park was in the year 1990 proclaimed for the natural reserve park. It represents the characteristic sample of the flysch landscape of the coast region. It is stretching by the Slovenian coast between Izola and Piran in the valley of the river Roja. It has the typical flora and fauna. The tract by the outfall of the river Roja was already in the middle century changed into the saltpans, but today is active only the small part. In the nearness of the saltpans is the lagoon – Stjuza, which was sometimes very fishy.

The lagoon and the saltpans are the connexion of the sea and land water element with the specific ecological conditions. The speciality of the park and its valuablenesses are the typical type of the settlement, cultural terraces, the saltpans, which are the ethnological and technical monument and seven native country homes, which are also the ethnological monument. The monuments of formative nature are the park at the Villa Tartini, which is the typical example of the submediterranean vegetation and the two sided avenue of the stone pines at the high road.

It is also the longest uninterrupted part of the natural coast in the Gulf of Trieste.
