Medvode

Town Medvode is the centre of the Medvode Commune. The main road through the city connects Ljubljana, the main city of Slovenia and Gorenjska Region. Medvode lies on the region, where the Sora river flows into Sava river. Medvode were already settled in prehistorical times, about what bear different finds. The city is in historical sources first mentioned in connection with the castle Goricane. Important buildings are also Lazarini manor in Valburga, castle in Jeterbenek and Old or Smlednik castle in Smlednik. Development of today's city started, when they in the year 1491 built with the permission of the emperor Friderik III. the bridge by the confluence of the Sava and Sora river. In the first half of the 19 th century was here the tollhouse because of the important road crossing, which stop to operate in the middle of the 19th century. Town Medvode was a popular tourist place for rest and relaxation in the nature at the end of the 19 th century and in the beginning of the 20 th century. They got the post office in the year 1862 and in the year 1870 the railway station. With the development of the industry after the First World War started the greater development of the place. The Medvode Commune has today the health centre, library, home for older people, bank, post office, several culture houses, elementary schools, local television, sports playgrounds, sports halls, railway station, commercial centre Merkator, agricultural cooperative, restaurants, coffeehouses and other. Interesting to see is the Plague Monument erected in the year 1603.
