Strunjan Nature Reserve

The Strunjan Nature Reserve is part of the Strunjan Landscape Park. It is very interesting walking path, because of the steep walls. You can come to the reserve from the bathing place in Strunjan by the foothills of the cliff, from the church of Saint Mary and the Cross of Strunjan above the cliff or from the bay of Simon. The church of Saint Mary is the most important pilgrimage centre of the whole Istra. The Strunjan Nature Reserve is including 4 kilometres long norhern coast of the Cape Strunjan between the bay of Simon and Strunjan and the belonging 200 metre long region of the coast sea.

There are the most characteristic steep cliff walls, high to 80 metres, which are built from soft flysch layers. Rain, wind and sea are continually changing and shaping their formation. It is the largest well known littoral flysch wall by the Adriatic coast. By the foothills of the cliff has among the abrupt slope and sea formed the gravelly terrace, which is in some places wide about 7 metres – the Bay of Saint Cross, on the capes narrow and passable only at ebb – the Cape of Strunjan.

The land part of the reserve is grown up with the submediterranean trees and shrubs sorts and on the Cafe of Ronek are also growing the authentic mediterranean plants. The information boards are situated by the foothills of the cliff and along the road above the cliff.
