Now has a stable democratic system. It joined NATO on 29 March 2004 and the European Union on 1 May 2004. Slovenia is also a member of the Eurozone, the Schengen area and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe. Most fascinating is, that Slovenia is the first post-Communist country which holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union for the first six months of 2008. Although Slovenia is very small, but it has everything what big countries have. It consists of four macroregions. These are the Alpine, the Mediterranean, the Dinaric and the Pannonian landscapes.
