Begunje

Begunje is the village, which belongs in region commune of Radovljica. It lies in 586 height above sea level under Begunjščica. Begunje are well-known after manor Katzenstein, castle Kamen, factory of ski Elan, valley Draga and ensemble brothers Avsenik, which were born in Begunje and also have here family run restaurant Pri Jožovcu and small museum collection. In the centre dominates manor Katzenstain, which was built in 16th and 17th century and was later several times rebuilt. Landlords of Katzenstein were Kacijanars, when castle Kamen was too small for them, and others.

Between second world war were there Gestapo prisons in which was imprisoned above 10.000 people. Lateral, ground floor with dozen original cells is today settled in memory museum. In central part of manor is psychiatry hospital. Upon hill in Begunje is situated pilgrimage church saint Peter, which is popular trip point.
