Pisece

Pisece is a larger lumpy settlement, which is situated on the south slope of Orlica on the east border of Slovenia in Posotelj. The kernel of the village is by road under the church of Saint Michael, which is the baroque building from the end of the 18th century. In sources the settlement is first mentioned in the year 1268. Till the second world war here were blossoming above all the milling industry and wine trade, which are pointing out large budilings, who gave the village market appearance. In the village core stands up especially the old school, inn, blacksmith's museum and shop. You can also see the birth house of the professor, linguist and writer of dictionaries Maks Pletersnik (1840-1923). On terraces higher by the brook Gabrnica was disposed lots of mills. Till today they preserved some parts of devices and buildings. The smaller mill, which is near church is renovated. Pisece Castle lies on the west side by the village. It stands inside the larger park and its scheme originates from the Romanesque times. It was built by the Archbishops of Salzburg. Park Pisece is arranged in English landscape style. You can see numerous trees of foreign origin like planes, catalpas, honey locusts and other.
