Lake Ptuj on Drava belongs to the largest artificial lakes in Slovenia. It was made in the year 1978, when they stemed up the river Drava. Lake Ptuj is 12 metres deep, 9 metres long and 1,2 km wide. The lake is intended for the hydroelectric station Formin. In place Markovce is the lake water separated into two parts. One flows to the riverbed of river Drava and the other flows by the channel to hydroelectric station. On Ptuj Lake are two islands and we can see how birds are nesting. The lake is home for rare and protective kinds of birds as are the cormorant, ordinary tern, river gull and others.
The Lake Ptuj is a popular place for fishing, sailing, boarding, rowing, driving with water scooters, motor boats and other. By the lake is located Ranca, which is the only and the first marina on land in Slovenia. To visitors is available the panoramic ride with the tourist boat Cigra, which accepts 25 people and flows by the defined order. In exceptional cases is possible to rent the boat for closed groups. In marina is also the Ranca bar, which offers different kinds of warm and cold drinks, refreshments, ice creams and coctails.
In the nearness is the playground for volleyball, handball or football, where they organize every year the Beach-Master. The path on embankment can use all the lovers of cycling, hiking and jogging.
