Trzin is a village located in the eastern part of Gorenjska. It is located near the town of Domzale, on the outskirts of the Kamnisko-Mengesko field. The Psata river flows through the settlement, which originates below Krvavec and flows into Kamniska Bistrica. It lies at an altitude of 299 meters.
The settlement borders the municipalities of Domzale, Menges and Ljubljana, the district community of Crnuce. It is the seat of the third smallest Slovenian municipality. Until 1988, Trzin belonged to the municipality of Domzale, but now it is an independent municipality that ranks among the developed and economically important areas of Slovenia. Trzin has around 4,000 inhabitants. It is connected to Domzale and Ljubljana by bus lines and a railway line, which has as many as three stops in the area of the settlement, namely Trzin Mlake, Trzin industrial zone and Trzin railway station. Trzin has a rich historical past. The oldest surviving document dates back to 1273. The settlement in this area is evidenced by excavations along the former Roman road Emona-Celeia, which led through the settlement. Most of the locals made a living by cultivating the land and raising livestock. They were also known as sausage makers and sellers. The butchers of Trzna are said to have started making sausages, which later got the name Carniolan sausage. Ivan Hribar (1851-1941), a Slovenian banker, diplomat and publicist, who was known for his patriotism, was born in Trzin. The city is divided into three parts, which are as follows: the old quarter, Mlake (new quarter) and the craft-industrial zone. Stari Trzin – the village lies between Trzinsko polje in the east and Onger or Strane hill in the west. Onger is a karst loner known for karst features such as caves and caverns. Among them, the most famous cave is Ajdovski kevdr. On the northern side of Ongra is the Trzin ski resort, on the eastern side is a quarry, and on the western part there are several wells: Mrzli studenc, Gvajšlov studenc, Severjev studenc and Rakovnik. The town hall, the Trzin Elementary School, the fire station, the library, the church of St. Florian from the 14th century and many farms are located in the area of the old Trzin village. Novi Trzin – Mlake was created on the western side of Ongra. It is a residential area that has developed on a former swamp. Here there is a kindergarten, a leisure center, banks and several bars.
The Trzin craft industrial zone is one of the most successful Slovenian industrial zones. It represents the newest part of Trzin, which was created in 1985. It is located west of Mlak and was also created on swampy ground. Here's the post office.
