Italian Way to Mangart

Mangart is 2679 meters high mountain in Julian Alps. It is the fourth highest mountain in Slovenia. The easiest starting point to Mangart is the Mangart Saddle. Up to there will drive you the picturesque former military road, which was built in the year 1938 and goes through several tunnels. The road is steep, winding and in some parts little exposed. Driving in this road is a wonderful experience. On the Mangart Saddle is the mountain hut, where you can get delicious Slovenian food. It is open from July till the end of September. There are two main paths to the Mangart, Italian and Slovenian Way.

Italian Path is gently sloping, easier and it takes about two hours. The starting point is the same for both directions, but after about 15 minutes the Italian Path goes to the left and Slovenian Path goes to the right. The height difference is about 624 meters. On some parts is slightly climbing, otherwise is not particularly dangerous and is suitable also for the people who have fear of height. In winter time are recommended crampons and ice picks.

From the spacious summit is the unforgettable view to Julian Alps with neighbourhood places like Trbiz, Log pod Mangartom, Predil and Lake Valley with Lake Predil (Lake Raibl).
