Kalvarija (Calvary) is a favourite walking point for the local people and other visitors. It is 375 m high hill, from where is a wonderful view to the city. Kalvarija is the most easy accessible from the Biotechnical school, where is enough parking place at the weekends. From there leads about 455 steep steps to the top of the hill. At the end of the steps goes the way over the vineyard and four chapels. After the short path through the forest expects us the church of the Saint Barbara. The view from the church is limited because of the trees, so it is the best if we enjoy it during the walk.
The local people made this walking point to Kalvarija in the year 1683 and built the church of the Saint Barbara and Rozalija for giving thanks of the cessation of the plague, which was demolishing in the city. In the 19th century Kalvarija became a synonym for the German nationality and so it got the name German Kalvarija.
