Village Skocjan lies on the small hill, which is from both sides surrounded with steep walls. It is a lumpy village in which we can see the Church of St. Cantianius with the belvedere point, presbytery, old school in which is the seat of the Tourist association Skocjan, stony communal well – Stirna, interesting old houses, Okroglica, which is 90 metres deep Karst abyss, cattle pond – Kal, Jurij barn, J'kopin barn and other. The village was already settled in the prehistoric period, indubitably also in antique and in the Middle Ages. The Church of St. Cantianius was consecrated in the year 1606.
It is surrounded with high, massive walls. In the 17th century was primary Gothic church broadened and it got the new presbytery and two lateral naves. Altars inside the church are from the 18th century. On the central village square is in the fountain collecting the rainwater from the roofs of the neighbouring houses. Sometimes was a condition for surviving of the local people in this regions. Stirna is made up from the underworld and overhead part. Abyss Okroglica is on the ground open to Mohoric cave, where River Reka first time dissappears underground.
The village catle ponds – Kal are almost the only standing waters in Karst. They witness about the special economical way of using the rainwaters. On the typical village cemetery are buried numerous foreign and local researchers of the Skocjan Caves. In the J'kopin barn we can see the ethnological collection. In the Jurij barn we can see the history of discovering of Skocjan Caves and the archaeological heritage of this area.
