Regional Skocjan Caves Park is a natural monument, which is already from the year 1986 registered to the list of the cultural and natural heritage. It lies in the Karst region in the submediterranean western part of Slovenia in Divaca Municipality. It includes the system of Skocjan Caves, area above caves with the villages Skocjan, Betanja, Matavun and the canyon Reka from the caves to the bridge in Skoflje. In the Park's Information Centre we can get tickets for the visit of Skocjan Caves and all other important information. Here is also a restaurant and playground for children. Regional Park Skocjan Caves covers the Karst landscape, where we can see lots of typical karst features. Skocjan Caves consists of eleven caves, sinks, natural bridges, sinkholes and many other. With the spacious halls and underground gorges they have special place among caves in Slovenia. The Skocjan Education Trail takes us around sinkholes Mala and Velika dolina in the centre of the park. It takes about one hour and half of easy walking. The village Skocjan is situated on the small hill, which is from both sides surrounded with steep walls. It is a lumpy village in which we can see the Church of St. Cantianius with the belvedere point, presbytery, old school in which is the seat of the Tourist association Skocjan, stony communal well – Stirna, interesting old houses, Okroglica, which is 90 metres deep Karst abyss, cattle pond – Kal, Jurij barn, J'kopin barn and other. The village Betanja lies on the terrace on the edge of the Mala dolina, just above the Skocjan and includes five homesteads. Matavun is the largest village in the park and the starting point for the visit of Skocjan Caves.
