Bled Castle is a symbol of Bled and Slovenia. The image of the castle with the lake and romantic island and church on it has earned the resort worldwide recognition in Slovenia and over the world. According to written sources is the oldest castle in Slovenia. The buildings are arranged around two courtyards which are connected with a staircase. In the past the outbuildings were arranged at the lower courtyard and the residential buildings around the upper courtyard.
Today you can see in the lower castle courtyard interesting coat-of-arms, memorial plate, platform with a fine view, bar, well, arcaded doorway where is the Multivision and connection between lower and upper castle courtyard, castle printing works and other. The well is cut into live rock. It was intendend for collecting rain water. It is about ten to twelve metres deep. At the upper courtyard is open the chapel, which was built in the 16th century. By the altar you can see the portrait of the German emperor Henrik II and his wife Kunigunda.
In the upper courtyard is also the restaurant, platform with a fine view, museum and other. In this part are organized medieval entertainments. Beside medieval days are at the castle also organized business meetings, political and corporate events, engagements, weddings, culture events and concerts. Between lower and upper courtyard is the herbal gallery and wine cellar. The castle walls are Romanesque. From the Bled castle are wonderful views to near and distant surroundings. Lake Bled is in front of you just like on the palm.
