Marezige is a picturesque village in Slovenian Istria, which administratively belongs to the municipality of Koper. The place is located in the northern part of the Savrinski hills and is about ten kilometers from Koper.
The settlement covers several hamlets on the ridge and slopes of the Marezgan ridge, between the valleys of the Rokava stream in the south and the Badasevica stream in the north. On the ridge, the village of Burji is exposed to the burja wind. On the northern slope are the hamlets of Brzani and Sabadini, and on the southern slope are Rokavci and Bernetici. The central part of the settlement is represented by the parish church of the Holy Cross, the cooperative home and a small square below it. There is a tower clock in the bell tower of the Church of the Holy Cross. In this part, there is also a monument to 87 fallen fighters and victims of fascist and Nazi violence, which is the work of architectural engineer Badjura. Marezige has around 600 inhabitants. The inhabitants are called Marezgani, and the female inhabitants are called Marezganka. The locals are mainly engaged in the cultivation of vineyards and are mainly known for Malvasia and Refosko wine and olive growing, unlike in the past when they were also engaged in dairying and animal husbandry. There are various associations operating in the place, such as hunting, sports and tourist associations and Mareziga Music Orchestra. The traditional Refoska Festival has been organized in the town since 1972. It promotes the quality of wines, the cultural and ethnological heritage of Istria and the wine culture. The holiday attracts thousands of visitors every year. In Mareziga, they have a spacious and large wine cellar, which opens its doors at this time.
The first wine fountain for wine tasting in Istria was opened in Mareziga. With a beautiful view of the Slovenian coast, visitors can taste excellent wines from local wine cellars and local Istrian delicacies.
