Portoroz is the largest seaside resort in Slovenia, which has long attracted many tourists due to its mild Mediterranean climate, lush vegetation, great position in the Bay of Piran and the sandy coastal plain.
Portoroz was already known as a health resort in the 13th century, when Benedictines from the monastery of Saint Lawrence with brine and seawater treated various ailments. Today, Portoroz is a highly tourist destination with many hotels, marinas, educational institutions, the nearby international airport and the Secovlje Salt-pans. From the Sencna pot - Shadow Trail we have a wonderful view of the Bay of Portoroz with its surroundings. The path leads us past beautifully decorated residences, typical villas, children's playground, auditorium of Portoroz and numerous apartments. The Portoroz Auditorium hosts various entertainment, cultural and sporting events in the multipurpose hall, which attract many local and foreign visitors.
Parenzana, a railway between Trieste and Porec, operated between 1902 and 1935 in this area. In Portoroz it went through a tunnel that has remained to this day. There is also a recreational trail on the former track, which can be walked or cycled.
