Vrhnika is the city, which is situated near Ljubljana, the main city of Slovenia. It has wonderful neighbourhood with Ljubljana swamp, belvedere hills, river Ljubljanica with its springs, which just invite you to go to walks. Vrhnika is tighty connected with famous writer, dramatist and poet Ivan Cankar, who was born here. In Trzaska Street you can see many interesting buildings like Villa Kunstel, old house with portal with engraved year 1847, Primary School of Ivan Cankar, Cankar's Library, park, Cankar's Hall, concern Industry of leather Vrhnika, Music School on Karel Grabeljsek Square, Health Centre, church of Saint Paul, remains of the Roman defence tower – Turnovse and many other things. The church of Saint Paul is located in the place of the former Roman camp. It is already the fourth in this area. It was built by the plans of Josef Schöbel in the year 1851. Inside you can see the main altar, four laterals and three the same large ships. Remains of the Roman defence tower – Turnovse are part of the wall Claustra Alpium Juliarum. Cankar's Hall is the main cultural house in Vrhnika. It was built in the year 1939 with the voluntary work of the local people under the guidance of the bricklayer's master Petkovsek and by the plans of Joze Sikit. Building did not have any radical interventions and changes. The cultural programme is every year richer and better.
