Ljubljana, the capital town of Slovenia, is located in the central part of Slovenia. It is political, economic, administrative and scientific center of the country. The city has many cultural, historical and natural attractions that attract many visitors.
On the southern edge of the city is the picturesque Ljubljana Marshes (Ljubljansko Barje), which has been a landscape park since 2008. The Ljubljanica River gives the town an attractive look with its bridges and picturesque embankments in the old town center. The river was from Roman times the main route for supply and trade until the entry of the railway in the 19th century. On the way to Ljubljana it also crosses the beautiful natural environment of the Ljubljana Marshes. The first bridge over the Ljubljanica River was built in Roman times. The famous architect Plecnik made a significant difference to the image of the town when he arranged river banks in the old town center, designed walkways with aisles along the river and restored or created several bridges on the river and tributaries. Ljubljanica's quays are a lively social gathering places with many open-air bars and restaurants. The most important facilities in the Grudnovo nabrezje Embankment are the Metrology Institute of the Republic Slovenia – Grudnovo nabrezje 17, early Baroque long house – Grudnovo nabrezje 23 and Pizzeria Trta – Grudnovo nabrezje 21. House Grudnovo nabrezje 17 stands on the eastern bank of the Ljubljanica River, opposite the confluence with Gradascica. It is a one-storey building with a six-storey facade, built after 1950.
The Grudnovo nabrezje 21 and 23 houses are early Baroque long houses – suburban docks with preserved building elements of the 17th century in the immediate vicinity of the city walls and the former Water Tower.
