Piran is a city that attracts many tourists throughout the year. It is interspersed with streets and tightly packed houses that invite us to get lost between them. Gregorcic Street is a smaller street, which is located towards the end of the old town and from it we immediately reach many restaurants and bars along the main promenade on Preseren embankment. The Muggia Gate and Hostel Val Piran are located on this street. The youth hotel is open year-round and is centrally heated. The hostel has 22 rooms, which are 2, 3 and 4 beds, with a total of 56 beds. Showers and toilets are separated by floors. Guests can use the kitchenette, iron with washing machine and internet room. On the ground floor of the hotel there is a restaurant, which can be converted into a modern lecture room with all the necessary technical aids. There is also a space with cable TV, video, phone and computer with internet connection. Piran was sometimes surrounded by the city walls, parts of which are still preserved today. Seven city gates, former entrances to the city, have been preserved, and one of them is the Muggia Gate. They date from the 13th century and are one of the oldest preserved gates in the city.
